Major types of building materials

There are so many opportunities nowadays to build a house, a prefab building, a shed or any kind of lodgment from a large number of building materials. Today you are not even limited to the actual kind of material but can choose the quality, the sort of lumber, for example, the sawn timber depth and many other parameters. If you are a builder, a professional in houses erection – there will be no new information for you here but if you are an amateur and a person who wants to build something only by yourself – some things you will find interesting in this very article.

First of all, if you want to build, let’s say, a house you are to have a plan – the plan that will be competently comprised. But the most important thing is to decide what kind of materials you are to use in your building works. Of course, you are provided with the long list of different building materials:

  1. Thatch – usually is used for roofing by African tribes;
  2. Brush – Native Americans adored such building structures;
  3. Ice – a very modern building material;
  4. Wood – the most common material for building a shed;
  5. Bricks and blocks – reliable and effective building materials;

Other materials are not very widespread for building aims, though are marvelous for interior decoration and other purposes.

Let’s look deeper into the above mentioned building possibilities: 1) and 2) won’t be your choice unless you want to imitate African sheds and tribal homes; 3) – is an interesting building material though in order to plan using it you need to live in the far North where the average annual temperature is always below zero and you also want to attract visitors from all over the world to your icy house; 4) wood is commonplace but one of the most widespread building material that survived centuries and is rich for modifications; 5) bricks and blocks – stern, solid and durable materials for any kind of building whether it is a small house, a shed or a complex high engineering solution for plants, factories – for all industrial buildings; 6) concrete – is not normally used for a private house building as the price for such a composite is enormously high and, frankly speaking, there is no need it such building material which primary goal is to serve the industrial engineering; 7) metal – is a very reliable building material because steel buildings have a lot of advantages and be practically used absolutely everywhere in public and industrial building. Especially interesting can be prefabricated metal buildings, steel buildings that are becoming more and more popular today. 8) Glass as it was already mentioned is used mostly in windows and interior decoration.

No matter, what kind of building material you choose; the main thing is that it must meet your requirements. As the famous proverb says: Look before you leap!
